Heaven, Hell & the Afterlife
“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” — Hebrews 9:27
The question of what happens after death is one of the most profound and consequential in all of theology. Scripture does not satisfy every curiosity, but it reveals enough to anchor our hope and sharpen our urgency: there is a God who judges, a Savior who redeems, and a future that will make all things new.
The Bible’s teaching on the afterlife unfolds progressively. The Old Testament speaks of Sheol in shadowy terms; the New Testament, illuminated by the resurrection of Christ, brings life and immortality to light (2 Timothy 1:10). The final picture is not disembodied souls floating on clouds but a resurrected humanity dwelling with God on a renewed earth.
